ESG Narrative

We firmly believe that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors are vital to achieving long-term sustainable growth. Recognizing the growing importance of sustainable practices, we have embarked on our ESG journey with a focus on responsible growth and value creation.

Our commitment to responsible business practices is embodied in our business responsibility and sustainability reporting framework, which addresses key material topics impacting our business and stakeholders. This policy highlights our dedication to sustainability and ethical conduct, providing clear principles for integrating ESG considerations throughout the organization.

To ensure effective governance, we have established a robust ESG governance framework that ensures accountability at all levels. This includes defined roles and responsibilities for Environmental and Social (E&S) management.

Our broader governance structure at SSF Plastics is led by 8 Board of Directors and supported by various committees, including the Audit Committee, Nomination and Remuneration Committee, Grievance Redressal Committee, and Sexual Harassment (POSH) Committee. These committees meet regularly, with their minutes meticulously documented. Senior management is kept informed of our progress on ESG KPIs through quarterly reports, ensuring alignment with our sustainability objectives.

Upholding the highest standards in ethical business practices, product safety, and environmental management is a core commitment for SSF Plastics India Limited.

We have implemented a range of policies, including those on product safety and quality, environmental management, ethical trading, human rights, whistleblowing, confidentiality, ESG, and conflicts of interest. These policies are accessible to all employees and stakeholders in Hindi, English, and local languages, ensuring clarity and inclusivity.

In FY 2024, we conducted a comprehensive materiality assessment to identify the most critical ESG topics that could impact our business and shareholders. Guided by the insights, we developed a targeted action plan to achieve our sustainability goals. The company has already taken significant steps by implementing various initiatives across the ESG pillars, focusing on key identified material topics.

Occupational Health and Safety

At SSF Plastics, we prioritize a safe, healthy working environment and operate with environmental responsibility. Our operations are supported by all necessary permits, licenses, and registrations, alongside a robust Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Policy backed by a dedicated committee. Regular EHS training, safety drills, and an Occupational Health Centre ensure the well-being of our employees and workers. We closely monitor key health and safety  through a Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) system. We are firmly against employing or contracting child labor, slave labor, or any form of forced or bonded labor.

Emissions and Energy Management

SSF monitors energy consumption and provides machine-wise details to compare and improve energy usage. In line with our commitment to reducing emissions, we have installed solar panels in all our factories, in addition to utilizing wind energy supplied by Sembcorp under a 25-year contract for our Hosur site Additionally, we have upgraded some of the molding machines at all our sites from hydraulic to servo motors, and we are also expanding the use of all-electric machines in our facilities. These enhancements are aimed at increasing operational efficiency and significantly reducing energy consumption.

The company uses an Electric Vehicle (EV) for administrative tasks and company owned CNG truck for operations at the Hosur site and have set up an EV charging station on the plant premises for visitors and guests. The facilities have installed occupancy sensors in frequently used areas to reduce energy usage.

Customer Relationship Management

We have established a clear procedure for handling and addressing customer complaints and have set internal targets aimed at reducing the number of complaints. To continuously improve our customer relations, we conduct an annual customer satisfaction survey every April to gather valuable feedback. This data helps formulate our strategies and set and achieve targets to enhance customer satisfaction and reduce complaints.

Waste Management

Our waste generation from operations is carefully measured and monitored to ensure effective management. Hazardous waste, like spent oil, is managed according to strict regulations and disposed off through PCB-authorized facilities. Non-hazardous waste, such as municipal and canteen waste, is sent to the municipal corporation from all our sites. We sell recyclable waste to authorized recyclers and then repurchase recycled raw material from them, closing the loop on its waste management. Additionally, the company holds Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration and has established internal targets to minimize scrap waste, further supporting our commitment to circularity.

Water and Wastewater Management

Water management is another critical aspect of the company’s sustainability efforts. Water consumption is closely monitored and reported across all operations. Wastewater generated in all the facilities is treated in Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), with the treated water being repurposed for irrigation and gardening. Additionally, rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems have been implemented to recharge groundwater.

Employee Well-being and Satisfaction

We believe in the continuous training and professional development of our employees. We provide comprehensive training programs, mentorship opportunities, and skill enhancement initiatives. By investing in our employees’ growth, we foster a culture of learning, innovation, and career advancement, ensuring their long-term success and contributing to our organizational excellence. Further, we have implemented a code of business conduct for our employees, which among others, sets out the fair dealing processes by our employees with our customers, suppliers and other third parties.

We are committed to upholding human rights. We are fully compliant with all labour law legislations. We conduct regular training for our employees including on human rights and are an equal opportunity employment provider.

Our customer relationships are built with consistent supply of quality products and high level of service. We pay close attention to detail and use advanced methodologies to ensure that we meet our customers’ requirements on time. We prioritize the quality of our products through stringent quality control measures which complies with industry regulations, rigorous testing protocols and monitoring of manufacturing processes.
